Winter radish is directly related to radish and the black radish and is also known as white summer black radish. The Japanese variant is called Daikon. It is an oblong, white root with a rather spicy flavour, comparable to radish. Winter radish quickly grows in about six to seven weeks. In The Netherlands it is regularly grown during spring and summer in the outside soil on higher sandy soil.
This vegetable is mostly consumed raw and is very suitable as a healthy addition to a sandwich or as a healthy snack. In addition winter radish is combinable with other vegetable for stir-frying.
